What is going on with GTX pricing?

Hi,

I've heard that AMD's RX 4xx/5xx GPUs are lacking and nobody has enough to be able to sell them, but today i opened up my local tech shop's webpage and what i found was very weird:
GTX1080 prices jumped up from about ~550-600eur to more than 1000eur in 2 days(?) (Zotac Mini 1080 jumped from ~570eur to 1050eur)
I no longer can find a GTX1070 without spending about 700-800eur.
The only GTX1080ti available costs ~1400eur and its pricing goes up to ~1750eur just for a single GTX1080Ti card.
Also, out of 50 available GPU models (of the same name), only 2 or 3 of them are in-stock.

Any ideas?

Solution
Ethereum miners are buying up all the amd cards they can. People are selling their amd cards, used, for more than they bought them. They're using the profits to buy up better gtx cards. Thus, the whole market is irrational right now.

Yes, i know about AMD cards and mining, but why all the Nvidia's GPUs just doubled in price and are completely out of stocks? I though only AMD had this problem of not making enough cards.

Also, i just calculated that i could cheaper buy a GTX Titan XP SLI configuration if i lived in USA rather than a single GTX1080Ti here in Europe :|

Thanks, informative article, but i still can't understand why the prices have straightly doubled, meanwhile in the article it is a much more consistent increase over the time.

Yep.. It's so good that i'm not yet planning on upgrading and i hope the market will be fixed in a few years. It just feels strange to see even the "worst" editions of the GPUs to be priced so insanely high.
