Hi, I am planning on building a PC but I am very confused about the state of CPUs right now. I want to be able to game on the PC but at the same time, I need to run design programs such as solid works, which uses multithreaded processes. After doing some research I found that while the new Ryzen launch is performing very well and has a high core & thread count, the 7700k performs much better on games (I play a lot of openworld action/adventure games such as Fallout & Assasins Creed). I know the 7700k is better with single thread programs, but will the chipset get outdated? I need some guidance in terms of what I should be looking for in a CPU and what CPUs currently satisfies those needs. Thank you.

P.S. I plan on getting a 1440p monitor @ 144Hz w/ G-sync, would that make a difference and how?

Solution
I would get the 1700x and overclock it to near 1800x speeds for close performance with the 1800x to save money. The ryzen cpu's are a better choice mostly because the current socket is more likely to be used longer which means better upgrade ability in the long term.

Few folks have ever had a rig longer than a couple years, and ever chose to simply get a new CPU for it...

DDR5 will be out in less than 18 months, etc.....

Not sure what speed advances folks are hoping to see on x370 boards...but, I doubt anyone will be dropping in 5 GHz cpus in even 2 years time in the same socket...

Despite AMDs claim of 'long term socket' support...

(THis support is for proimising manufacturers they won't switch every year, not for consumers to be able to drop in a new cpu in 18 months time for massive performance gains...)
