How many gigabytes should a graphics card have for vr? 3 or 6?

I went to frys and they said I should get six but I'm not sure if he was trying to upgrade what I want to buy, or if was Legitimate advice.

The requirements for VR often say minimum requirements are a GTX 1060, to me this is the 6GB version, as the 3GB is a cut down GPU with some of it's cores disabled. So get the 6GB.
