I have been using Window 7 (legit copy) for the past few years. Perhaps it's some program I installed, but now whenever I go to the Control Panel and click on the 'Uninstall Programs' option, nothing happens.
I'm serious. NOTHING happens; it's as if I didn't click it.
Please help me.

PS: Please don't suggest the use of third-party uninstallers as I really wanna fix THIS not workaround it.
And yes, I should upgrade to Windows 10, but I don't like it.
Any help is appreciated.

Solution
Your issue is a very odd one so yes it may come down to trying to repair either by system restore or, repair via win7 dvd.

Backup your data in either case to an extarnal hdd.

Hi,

If any besides antivirus, are there any registry cleaners/tinkerers like a software called Registry Mechanic that have been installed?

Besides doing a system restore, you can try narrow the program/process stopping you from opening uninstall / and or Programs and Features page by typing msconfig in the search bar and selecting diagnostic startup. Mainly to narrow down the processes from a program that might be involved.

The problem does sound like an maintenance tool/program glitch with Windows.

Have you installed any form of update recently? My guess is to roll those back first of all. I had a problem once that windows thought another installation was running therefore when I clicked uninstall, nothing appeared to happen. System restore is more of a last resort option.

If I did a System Restore, I'd lose a lot of data..... I stopped using this PC for some time and when I went back I didn't back anything up.....

Boju, is there a step-by-step that you can give.

Tom: No. No recent updates....although my Windows Updates says I'm up-to-date.

The search bar above the start button, type msconfig

Under general there are startup selections

Normal: everything as of current loads

Diagnostic startup: Only basic core windows programs and processes are loaded, any user based 3rd party programs/drivers aren't loaded on the next start.

Selective is a combination of the above.

If selecting Diagnostic startup and the problem is still persistent then most likely Windows is corrupt or changed. If the problem goes away then theres a user application that's loading that's interfering. Troubleshooting if or which program is causing it will be upto you if you can remember if there was anything installed like any maintenance tools.

If having a look at the uninstall program page might jog your memory, if diagnostic startup doesn't bring back that page, enter safe mode and see if you can uninstall programs then. Press f8 in one second intervals immediately after powering up until you get to this window;

You don't need to do a system restore but you can try repair your system, all you need is your Windows 7 disc, you wont lose your data.

Okay, i have had similar issues i think its due to viruses.
Download R-Kill, then boot into safe mode and run it. When its finished it will give you a report... post that here so i can see it.
what R-Kill does is basically turns off any type of programs that shouldn't be there and puts them into a report. also after its done you should be able to open control panel.
Heres a link to download it: http://download.cnet.com/RKill/3000-8022_4-75221743.html

No, I've figured out that a program isn't stopping me. My registry's blown somehow....
Any idea how to repair it? Or will I have to do an ENTIRE system restore because of this?
