Gaming pc upgrade advice

I built this budget gaming pc about a year ago and I'm looking for some advice on which parts I should upgrade first, which ones are most in need/what will make the biggest difference in performance. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.


CPU: Intel - Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: ASRock - H170M Pro4S Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

Memory: Kingston - HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory

Storage: ADATA - Premier SP550 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon R9 280 3GB Dual-X Video Card

Case: Corsair - 200R ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: XFX - TS 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

The 1050Ti wouldn't be a big enough upgrade. Its about on par with the 280x. So you'll be getting around 15-20% more performance, not really worth it if you ask me. The 1060 on the other hand should be a solid 70-80% step up.

I still intend to keep it somewhat of a budget build... im considering putting another $200-$300 into it for now if its even worth it.. and I am currently gaming at 1920x1080

Considering you will be gaming at 1080p, I'd suggest get a 1060. It should serve you fine for 1080p gaming @ ultra for a year or two. You could also do with a RAM upgrade, though 8 GIGs is just about fine for now.

is there a specific model or brand of the gtx 1060 that is prefered?

I'd say all the 1060 cards from the well known vendors are solid options. Get whichever you find cheapest.
