Questions about GPU for imminent build

Alright so I am in a very tough place right now with regards to my GPU choice for my PC build. I plan to game in 1440p eventually, but am getting a 1080p monitor from a friend immediately. Now, I have a few choices.

1) Wait until Vega comes out in August, which I could do, but is risky. It could be too pricey for the performance, and there could be software issues. But it could pay off at the same time. I could be getting gtx 1080 performance or better for a cheaper price. Like I said though, it's a gamble.

2) Buy a gtx 1080 (or 1070). I definitely am leaning towards a 1080 as of right now, but I want to make sure that a 1080 will last me a good few years of 1440p gaming at 60+ Hz. I definitely could afford a 1080, so price isn't a big issue.I just don't want to buy it, then end up lacking in the fps department a year down the road, since I know the card is over a year old now.

3) Buy a cheapie, something like an Rx 580 or gtx 1050 to hold me over until Nvidia comes out with volta. This is an interesting option, and also a gamble much like waiting for Vega. I know Volta will likely be very good, but it will be quite a long time to wait for a new card. It would suck as well to have to put some extra cash down at first, but I would be getting an absolute top of the line GPU.

Let me know what you all think, I welcome all suggestions!

Cheers

Solution

1) It'll remedy the used GPU market. If Vega is indeed released this year, then all cards used in mining would be sold since Vega is promising some good mining performance, much higher than ones from Polaris. So you can probably find GTX 970 for $100, RX 480 for $150, RX 470 for $125. Pretty much slightly lower than the prices they used to be since intense mining use.

2) There's a lack of any GPUs for miners. So, any GPU that a miner...

Yeah I've heard about that. Do you think that will be remedied when Vega comes out? And why is it just now that prices are skyrocketing?

When the currency isn't valuable, then mining makes no financial sense, so miners don't buy the cards. When the currency gains enough value, now everyone wants to mine it and the cards sell out. The bottom will fall out of the value and this craze will end, but it's impossible to say when exactly.

Well that's some inconvenient timing lol. So would you recommend waiting for Vega as well?

What inconvenient timing haha. Who knows though maybe waiting for Vega will turn out a better choice than paying a premium price right now! Thanks for your answers man.
