GTX1080 Benchmarking too low?

Hello!

I've just bought a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX1080, ill start by saying I know my system isn't the best so this card is definitely overkill atm but I got a great deal on it (£1.80 more than the Strix 1070 I was about to buy) so decided to future proof a bit.

Plugged in the card, downloaded drivers etc went straight to 3D Mark to see what time spy benchmarks I would get and am concerned they are a little low compared to other 1080s.

I don't know whether this is a system bottleneck or whether there is any fine tuning I can do to the card/system but other users seem to be scoring in the 7000+ region. By comparison my best score is 5934 @ 1920x1080, 60hz.

current system:
Gigabyte 990x G1 Gaming MB
FX-8350 @ 4GHz - not OC'd (yet)
crucial 16gb 1600mhz
Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1080 - Factory OC'd to 1735mhz boost in default mode
Samsung Evo 500gb SSD
Toshiba 1TB HDD
Corsair RM650x
Corsair 570x case

Q1 - does this benchmark seem a bit on the lowside for this card/rig or would this be expected considering the other components?

Q2 - apart from OC'ing is there anything else I am missing to improve this score/performance?

Cheers in advance!

Okay that's good to know. I'm aiming for a 4.8 oc. As soon as I can afford a liquid cpu cooler I'll be over clocking until I can afford to make the jump to ryzen. Cheers!
