Graphics card black screen while playing games

I have a GTX 970, and recently my monitor black-screened mid-game. I rebooted the system but there it just showed the windows logo and some weird horizontal lines running across the screen. I then connected the DVI cable directly to the motherboard and it works just fine. A few days later, I tried out the GPU again, and it worked fine, for a few hours before it black screened again. Help very much appreciated.

Yeah, more than likely I think your graphics card has gone to the great big recycling center in the sky.

If you can, try the 970 in a different computer, but I don't think you're going to see that working

What one can do to kill 970? Temperature while playing Doom at Extreme never goes over 72C. Comparing to R9 290 this card is freezing in terms of temperature while consuming half of the power. Works with any budget PSU.

Loads of stuff, but likely it was just time and use, or it was just a faulty card to begin with and was likely to start dying at any old time.

The power supply has two PCI-e connectors and both of them are plugged into the graphics card. Unfortunately, I don't have another card to check with.

Oh sorry, yes I've put the card into the other slot, seems to be acting no differently than when in the first slot
