Need help with parts building a new pc for ffxiv
My old desktop just crapped out on me and i need a build a new pc with all mostly new parts that can run ffxiv in 1080 60 fps. I still have a i7 laptop with a 1070 so this is strictly for this one game only. Budget is around 500, but i want to spend as little as possible.
What were the specs of the system? We'll need to know so we can see what we're up against.
Before we start spending any money, can you tell us HOW your existing system died? Nobody here can work miracles but we may be able to bring it back to life.
Assuming it's terminal, what parts could we salvage from the current setup? Skipping a case and storage will easily save $100, if your OS can transfer over that's another <>$100 saved you might also be able to cannibalise memory and the GPU.
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 -
PSU: Corsair CX600 -
Motherboard: Intel BOXDZ68DB -
CPU: Intel Core i5-2400
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600MHz 1.5V -
HD: 500GB Seagate Barracuda ST -
Optical: Lite On DVD Burner -
Video Card: gtx 750ti
When I turn the computer on I hear 4 beeps but nothing shows on screen but lights come on for the keyboard and mouse.
Everytime I start up I get a hard drive error massage.
Getting alot of graphic card error when computer does work. Error staying graphic driver has restarted , direct error.
Sounds like the motherboard is toast: https://www.scribd.com/document/76705259/Intel-Beep-Code
See if you can breadboard the system-remove the MB or at least unscrew all the hold down screws and gently raise it off the standoffs, this is best done with the case on its side.
I know this is likely to be time consuming-and annoying-but also see if you can try the existing HDD and GPU in another system, don't forget to disconnect the host systems boot drive, though, or you may corrupt it.
Fair enough, can understand your reasons.
I've stuck with the FFXIV recommended specs as far as possible: First the AMD option: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/coozie7/saved/#view=rtQmGX I could have gone for the cheaper R5 1400, but here I'm fairly sure it'll get beaten by the Intel i5 in my other build, hence the bigger R5 1600.
And from the Blue Team we have: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/coozie7/saved/#view=vdx8dC Full fat i5 and a decent, if not spectacular motherboard, memory is slower than the R5 1600 build, though.
Both setups are modern and have plenty of expansion potential, they will perform similarly in CPU intensive games like FFXIV with the R5 probably just edging out the i5.
Be very aware: BOTH of these setups will demand an 8 pin EPS power lead to the motherboard, so you may need to swap out the PSU if it doesn't have either an 8 pin or the more common 4+4 pin EPS lead.
know I'm right on the edge of your budget but FFXIV really wants a Quad cored CPU at least, and I'm not sure how it'll respond to a i3 with its dual core/4thread design, so I'll recommend you stump up the extra and go for an i5 or r5 1600, maybe dropping to the R5 1400 if you have to sell body parts for the faster chips.
