Wireless keeps dropping

My Linksys router keeps dropping my signal, causing my vpn to disconnect and reconnect once the signal is back (frustrating). When I connect an ethernet connection to my router, I have no issues. This seems to defeat the purpose of a wireless router. Also, when I have signal, the signal is strong. It just keeps dropping (making me crazy).

What model Linksys router? What wireless adapter are you using? USB?

Are any other wireless devices have problems or just your device - being a computer I trust....

I have had a couple of wireless USB adapters that started acting up. Discovered that they were getting very warm or even hot.

In any case check your adapter. Make sure all connections and seatings are firm and snug. Monitor its temperature by touch to see if it is indeed getting hot.

It could also be that the adapter is aging and becoming less sensitive for reception or weaker with respect to transmission.

You can use antenna extensions on a wireless PCI-x wireless adapter or a USB extension cable for a USB wireless adapter. Either way the objective is to get the...
