I know there are a lot of threads that say the 1600 is better because of the threads. I am looking for something that will be viable to at least medium-high settings on games like Overwatch and BAttlefield and plan on keeping the PC for 10 years (I like it to average out to about 100 dollars per year). I honestly can't decide. I am partial to Intel because I have had such a great experience with my second generation i5 to this point.

I understand the idea of more cores and more threads but do they really matter? So many suggested builds on the internet say to use the 7600k but then you go to forums and everyone says Ryzen 5 1600.

R5 1600. The threads matter when you multitask. If you're JUST running a game on your computer, I believe intel still has a slight edge. If you have programs in the background, ever want to record or stream, have other monitors with videos running, or any other tasks that you want to juggle, then the threads / ryzen will be better. 10 years is a long time as well, so even if you just use your computer for gaming now, it will still be better to have more threads in the future when your computing interests may change. It's also cheaper and comes with a good stock cooler.
