How to install a laptop hardrive as your 2nd hardrive in your desktop pc

Hello I need help. My pc is was running out of storage(250gb ssd) so I took out my hard rive from an old laptop in stalled it into my pc. This hard drive was like 4 years old and was the laptops main system drive. When I booted my computer I would be stuck on the windows loading page(the one with the windows logo) it was saying preparing automatic repair. I cant get onto my computer with the hardrive installed any methods I can use to get the old hard rive to work. TY
Btw my BIOS does detect the laptop hard rive I just cant boot on my main SSD with the hardrive being installed.

1. First of all please confirm that when you boot to your present SSD boot drive as the ONLY connected drive the system boots to the OS and functions problem-free.

2. We'll assume that you've properly installed/connected the 2.5" laptop drive in your system and that the BIOS/UEFI continues to reflect a first boot to the SSD in the boot priority order. That's right, isn't it?

3. Presumably you've tried connecting the laptop's drive to a different SATA data port assuming you have a vacant one, right?

4. The problem could simply be a defective drive. I assume - since you haven't indicated such - that you haven't tested that drive with (preferably) the manufacturer's diagnostic program. Do so, even if the drive was properly operating at the time you removed it from the laptop.

5. It's not an uncommon result that a system will balk at booting to the OS when a defective SECONDARY drive has been installed/connected.

Yes with only my SSD connected I can boot up no problems.
Yep the first boot option is my SSD.
I actually have no idea if the drive is working considering the laptop I took it from has been dead for 4years (battery problems).Since the laptop is dead I haven't been able to format the drive before I installing it into my pc. I think the problem is that it has windows 8 installed in it. The drive is Cleary shown in the bios as a Hitachi drive.
