The specs for my current pc are:
CPU -AMD FX-8320
Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM - 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 LE R2.0 (Socket 942)
Graphics - 4096MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (MSI) (Radeon R9 290)
Storage - 1863GB Seagate ST2000DM001-1ER164 (SATA)

I'ts obviously a few years old now and im thinking its time for a change. But i dont know a lot about computers. Ideally i would like to upgrade over time because i dont have enough to splurge on an entirely new build. I know this might be difficult however because i would have to upgarde CPU, motherboard and to DDR4 RAM all at once? is that even correct i dont know?

However i also dont understand what to look for with new parts. With regards to CPU, if i have the 8320 which is an 8 core at 3.6 Mhz, but is from 2011, how is a 4 core intel 7700k that runs at 4.2 better? The same goes for GPU's i have 4VRam with a 2012 card, so if i was to get a new card, does it need more VRAM or would 4 from a newer card be suffice?

Sorry for being such an idiot when it comes to computers, but i just need help from someone who's willing to teach me. I cant promise that i'll be the best learned but i'll try my hardest.

Thanks,

Here is a 6 core Ryzen that will beat your old CPU by a mile. Ghz and cores isn't a measure of how powerful a CPU. To know that we have to look at benchmarks. In the link scroll down and you will see raw multithread with the Ryzen being about twice as fast as your old 8320.
