My last power supply died so I purchased a new one, i have almost no experience with the internals of a computer, besides watching others build computers from time to time. I knew the set up from the previous psu and i knew how it worked in terms of setting up the next one but something might have happened while i was putting it in.

Okay, so the psu i put in is the EVGA BQ series 850w bronze, i put the 4+4 pin into the correct spot, along with the 24/4 and finally i put the 6/6 into my gtx 970 graphics card. I then took my hard drive and put it into the SATA1 port on the psu. My solid state is the primary card with windows 10 on it and that links up to the 2TB hard drive which then goes straight to the power supply. Both are linked up to the motherboard in SATA6G_1 and 2. my father set this computer up and the only things that i removed while taking out and replacing the power supply was anything that was directly connected to it and nothing else, so i dont believe that anything else would be causing this problem.

The drive is spinning, which means its getting power, i unplugged and re-plugged in everything that is linked to the hard drive/psu, i went into the BIOS and checked to see if i could find it there, I couldn't see anything.

Both drives were already set up before switching out the psu - I say this because while doing hours of research i came across that solution many times and i just want to eliminate that possibility.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! If you need any more information feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance.

E: Okay, well I have tried a few dozen different things, and nothing has worked, im just going to replace it with another hard drive and be done with it all.

What does this mean "My solid state is the primary card with windows 10 on it and that links up to the 2TB hard drive which then goes straight to the power supply." You are "linking" the SSD to the other drive somehow? Or are you just using "links up" as something totally different? The boot SSD needs to be in the same SATA port it was when Windows was installed, connected to the motherboard and the power supply power. The second drive can be in any other SATA port in the motherboard and also to the power supply SATA power connections. The drives should not be "linked" to each other in any way directly.

You are not connecting and disconnecting things while testing the drive with the power on correct? You need to make sure the...
