I currently have this setup :
Motherboard: ASRock K10N78D (AM2+/3 socket)
Processor : AMD Athlon II X2 250, 3.00 GHz
videocard : ASUS EAH5750 Series
Ram : 4 * 1GB DDR2 , all different

Now yes, I know this is really old, but I was wondering, if the processor is worth upgrading to an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, just so I can run things like Rocket League and CS:GO next to my school work.. On the other hand, I could buy a newer CPU, like the AMD FX-6300, which has an AM3+ socket, but then I would need to buy a new motherboard with a matching socket, and new DDR4 ram. The video card could stay because its half decent, but still, these 3 things would cost me around 250$, which I only want to spend if I know it's for a good cause.

The am3+ boards use ddr3, not ddr4. That's am4 and ryzen cpu's. If you were to upgrade I'd skip fx altogether, you'll need a new mb, ram and cpu along with needing to reinstall windows fresh no matter what you do. May as well forget ddr3 and go straight to ryzen or intel with ddr4 and a new setup. Fx is outdated and will have you buying outdated ram that won't transfer to a new system down the road.

If the cpu's fairly cheap it might be worth it to you. It should give you an extra 10-15fps give or take depending on the game. Unless you're able to get one for a really good deal though I wouldn't go investing a whole lot more into that pc. It's fairly old and many things need improving for more modern games. You'd do well to have a...

You'd do well to have a somewhat better gpu even for cs:go depending on what resolution you play at, a better cpu, faster/newer/more ram - basically a whole new system.

@Synphul's right.Might aswell save money and get a whole new system for 600-800 dollars. Its gonna perform much better.Your current system is old.I would say you would get a bit of a performance boost but overall its not worth upgrading.
