I was wondering, since I myself didn't purchase a product key for my windows 10 and instead upgraded from windows 8.1 from when MS was offering it for free, if I would be able to keep my copy of 10 had I changed from am3+ to am4 and reinstalled windows 8.1 off of the CD-ROM i bought it on. I linked my MS account to my digital copy of 10 and just want to make sure it'll stay surfaced when I upgrade my rig.

For an Upgraded Win 10, read and do this before changing any parts:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3164428/windows-build-1607-activation.html

That's for the licensing/activation.

For the actual operation...booting up...maybe...

Well when I switched from AM3+ to z270, thats what I did and it worked fine. I linked my key to my Microsoft account, then logged in after finishing my new build and windows was activated. However I had a retail version of win 8.1 when I upgraded to win 10, if you had an OEM version of win 8.1 that you upgraded to 10 you may have an issue moving that key to another system, not sure how that works with OEM keys to be honest.

Depends on if you're changing the motherboard. If yes, it'll re-trigger the activation, yes. However, if you in your MS account have win 10 linked to you, you should also be able to access its key, they give you that as an option somewhere on the page. MS stopped supplying the update at some point, so I'd contact them at this point before you do anything, and ask if you change the motherboard, if this is still going to be a win8 key or it it actually got updated to win10.

Prepare for if it fails to boot up and you have to do a full reinstall.

Product key valid for win 10, yes. But the link USAFRet gave you goes one step further cause you don't even need that, as long as you re-link to your microsoft account and clarify that it's a new device (provided you're not changing the hard drive too).

Again...there are two different considerations:
Licensing/activation, and Operation.

Win 10 licensing is covered by my links above.

Operation...does it actually boot up...is a whole different thing.
It might, it might not.
Prepare for if it does not.
