it hard today to brick a mb for a bios update if you use the mb bios updater in the cmos. all you need to do is download the newest bios and unzip it to a usb stick. leave the stick plugged in and reboot into the bios. under the utility tab is the bios updater. have it point to the usb stick and let it run.
As a general rule, you should only update your BIOS to correct a known error, or to gain additional functionality, such as support for a new CPU. Updating a BIOS fits in the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" catagory.

TPM is not something you use or need it stands for "Trusted Platform Module" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module
and is used for big corporations etc (we use it at my work... its a PITA) to protect against hacking at low level hardware level threats.
As others have said.. if you don't understand or know what its updating - and are not sure its something you need.. prob best "pass"
