Hi guys,
I'm trying to connect my old Asus G51J notebook to my also old 5.1 analog speakers.
The G51J has 2 sound output jack:
1. regular 3.5mm headphone jack
2. 3.5mm headphone jack with SPDIF

My 5.1 speakers have only 3 inputs, all of which are 3.5mm:
1. green FR/FL
2. black SR/SL
3. orange C/SW.

Is this accomplishable?
Thanks a lot

Yes, you need a receiver with digital in (optical or coax) that matches your SPDIF out. Then drive your speakers from the receiver. This is how i drive my speakers.

No, you cannot do this with just a wire with plugs on both ends. You need the digital to analog converter (DAC) and amp to drive the speakers.

Are your speakers powered (self amplified)? If so there are some USB sound cards that will drive this also. If not you definitely need the receiver.

Update, check this at walmart "ELEGIANT External Optical USB 6 Sound Card Channel 5.1 Audio Surround Adapter For Laptop PC"...
