Hi, this Q may require a vintage HP printer expert.
I may soon get a 32-bit Windows 7 system.

I'd want it to be compatible with my HP laserjet 1012 printer. Many people have found that the Vista driver download (32-bit) is what worked for the HP laserjet 1012.

The problem is, that HP removes older drivers from their download area, and so its not there anymore.

So I downloaded for storage the below-linked zip file for future use if need be.

QUESTION RE: INSTALLATION:
Are the instructions in below link accurate within Win-7?
Or should the instructions be revised for clarity & accuracy? Thanks.

Uh, as said above, many people had found the Vista driver download is what worked for them.

Any HP printer experts here?

Easiest option is to replace the printer with a modern one if that driver you got from helpjet.net doesn't work.
All you can do is try installing that driver through Device Manager first, see how it goes.

I never set up a printer before with just a bunch of archives & an .INF file, (I've used .INF installation method many times with several other devices but never a printer), always used full installer program for printers.

Good luck.

Phillip, so do I follow this order:

transfer the compressed/zipfile from my Win-XP Download Folder to my external storage.
Copy it to the Win-7 Downloads Folder of the new system

...and then what?
...where do i go from there?

Click on Device Mgr (wherever that is in Win-7?
...then what?

Thanks.

P.S. Why should I want another printer if my LJ 1012 is better than all others? I also have a spare 1018 of the same series. It's outrageous to have to dump it. Where are the environmentalists with respect to such issues?
