My current specs are: cpu: fx-4300 motherboard: GA-78LMT-S2 graphics card: gtx 1050 ti 8gb of ram Power supply: 300w

I currently have an amd cpu and am in need of an upgrade. My problem is both that I don't know if I should switch to Intel or stick with amd. Another question is if I stick WITH AMD I dont know if I should upgrade my motherboard because It has DDR3 ram. If I go with Intel I would get the pentium g4500, but with AMD I would get Ryzen 3 or 5. If I stick with AMD should I upgrade to get ddr4 ram?

Solution
Hard to recommend the Ryzen 3 CPUs since they don't exist yet. Ryzen 5 starts at about $160, which is considerably above the $60 a Pentium G4560 costs. Right now, the G4560 is uncontested at the low-end.

Sub-$200, it's a wash between an i5 (7500) and the R5 1400 / 1500X, all are fair choices... if you ignore the R5 1600 which is only $220, and is a 6 core / 12 thread monster of a CPU, and the clear king in that segment.

At $300-400, there's an argument to be made for an i7 7700 or R7 1700. The i7 has noticeably faster per-core speed, which is far more important in gaming, whereas the R7 has twice as many cores, which will show benefits in things like encoding, rendering, and compression.
if pondering recent AMD or Intel CPUs and chipsets, your choice of DDR4 and new mainboard are automatic....

(I don;'t think it would be prudent to sink more money into your current mainboard, which is long since 'dead end', and, even best case/best cpu available for it's socket, will be outperformed and limiting your 1080P perfomrance, which is a best case scenario for a GTX1050 anyway)

that being said, there are some nice prices on R5 1600 cpus/B350 mainboards out there right now....; save $100 for at least 16 GB of DDR4/3200 RAM, although you could squeek by with only 8 GB in an emergency...

I would go with Ryzen, but you would need to switch to DDR4 RAM. Maybe buy older Intel processsor for extra savings
