i got a problem with enabling sli in nvidia control panel im running these 2 cards: Evga gtx 970 acx 2.0, gigabyte gtx 970 windforce 3x. i got a cheap sli bridge connected but everything else is greyed out in the sli configuration but the Disable sli ?

Solution

They do not NEED to be the exact same make and model card but it does make things easier. They need to both be 970s though yes. Make sure both of your GPUs are running at the same clock speeds, both GPU and vram. If they are different then you need to down clock the faster card to your slower cards speed using something like msi afterburner. Also bios being used can be an issue. If clocking the cards the same doesn't fix you issue you may need to update your GPU bios on one or both cards so thy are compatible. If that does not fix your issue then you do have a problem...

If that does not fix your issue then you do have a problem as one GPU may not have a compatible bios with the other at which point you are screwed. Generally that is not an issue though usually something somewhere will fix it. Last thing you can try is running DDU in safe mode and see if it helps. Make sure to balance out the clocks again though after you reinstall your drivers as running ddu will undo your work with msi afterburner.

no matter which one is faster is in which slot because they need to be running at the same speed for SLI. like I said use msi afterburner to clock both GPUs at the same speed. Basically make the faster GPU/vram the same speed as the slower one.

Not sure if you've encountered this or not or are aware of...

Some programs, such as AV/Maleware and even certain APP center types for motherboard monitoring/OC utility (just as an example) while running, can sometimes interfere with NV Control Panel being able to enable SLI.

However, you will usually/should receive a prompt, when this is the case. You made no mention, so prob a non-issue but just throwing it out there in any event.

EDIT: If this where the case, you'd only need to disable whichever program causing the issue, then enable SLI, then restart the disabled program.
