Transferring files from one NAS to another.

So I've almost filled up the space on my Synology DS414 (4 bay) and was hoping for some advice in regards to transferring all my files to my new DS1817+(8 bay) ?

The DS414 has 4 - 3TB drives and I'd like to reuse 3 of those in the DS1817+ . I have 5 new 6TB drives that I also want to use. I plan on using SHR (Synology)type RAID.

My first thought was to set up the new DS1817+ with the 6TB drives in 5 of the bays and get everything up and running. Then, transfer all data from the DS414 to the DS1817+.

After that, I thought I'd wipe (by reformatting?) the 3TB drives and place them all into the DS1817+ at once and let the software do whatever it needs to do to balance the storage vs the protection.

Does this sound like the proper way of going about this?

Also, I've another question: I use PLEX for some of the files and I like to let it sort by "Date Added". Is there a way to keep the dates untouched when transferring them?

Thanks for any and all help

That does look like the solution. Especially to my question about keeping the file attributes. I'll have to read further about adding the new drives, and if I should reformat them beforehand?

Thanks, I'll post an update when finished.
