Great Bandwidth/Latency but lag in all games and other issues

Hi there

Im not the first one adressing this issue, however, i seem to be the only one incapable of resolving the issue with threads opened so far.

I have a very decent ethernet connection and i can download and browse the internet at speeds above average ( http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6407668867 ). But for some reason i just cannot play any videogame at all. the lag is just so incredibly extreme that i just get teleported around and in teamspeak - if able to connect at all - i sound like a robot to everyone (and so do they
).
i never have any programs running in the background that could affect latency, because im paranoid

now for the fun fact. my ping never goes over 30ms in any given game, which drives me crazy. it just doesn't make any sense.

Here's a list of what i've done so far:

- Restarted router & pc multiple times
- renewed my IPconfig
- done a packet loss test (average ping time 3ms, max 8ms, no packet loss)
- clean re-install of windows (cleared all data from my drives)
- ran my antivirus, nothing detected.
- went to check msconfig if any weir programs were autostarted. (nope)
- checked if network adapter drivers were up to date (yes)
- tried static and dynamic IP out of desperation
- tethering with my phone resolves the issue

This is the first time i need to ask for help on a forum, normally googling for a while does the job.
I really hope there's some genius out there able to spot the problem and out me as a moron.

Thanks a lot

Specs:

Windows 10, 64bit

Intel Core i7-4790 CPU @ 4GHz

HyperX 4x8GB DDR3-RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 980Ti

HyperX 500GB SSD, 4TB HDD

Mainboard MS7916

Network adapter Ethernet 1000Mbit/s

So, it seems to me, that if you are able to tether to your phone and fix the issue, the problem must be with how you're accessing the internet, or for whatever reason, the ports that you use for games and teamspeak are blocked.

Are you able to test with a different computer? If so, hardwire it the same way your current rig is, and try to run something.

Im setting up my old laptop right now, going to try it!
Could i manually check if any ports are blocked? i dont have any settings in my router options that would indicate that.
i used to enable portforwarding for tunngle, but nothing else and not anymore.

i tested for packet loss with http://freeola.com/line-test/ and by manually pinging my router for about 5 minutes.
thats okay, right?

Please do, let us know what happens.

I don't think there's like a list or something with all of the ports that are used and how they are used, but try teamspeak first. I guess the default ports are 9987, 10011, and 30033. I'm not sure how to change the port TS uses though because I don't use it. Sorry :c. If you can figure out how to change that port, try those 3 and see if you sound like a robot

very interesting
i setup my old laptop, did a quick speedtest, which showed the same excellent result as my normal pc.
then i tried to download league of legends (which really doesnt take long with 10mb/s) but failed. the download rate jumped like crazy from <1mb/s to >10mb/s and after about 5 minutes i got an error. i found this very suspicous and pinged my router in cmd to check for packet loss, and there it was. massive packet loss. about 40%.
i really cant explain why i didnt produce this result on my regular pc. i did the test the same way :/

Seems like we have begun to narrow it down then. Can you try a different Ethernet cable, and port on your router/modem? One at a time, obviously

i tried all the different cable/port configurations and i cant manage to get it working. my laptop still reports packed loss, although a little less. my main pc however completely rejects the connection. at first it has an invalid IPconfig (169.xxx.x.x) which i can resolve by renewing it, but then it doesnt give me any detail why its still not working.
im going to buy new cables tomorrow just to be sure they arent to blame. i doubt it is though, because i also used the one from my tv and another one laying around.
at this point, i am deeply confused

ok. i have now replaced every single cable and the problem remains. i'm going to contact my ISP and give an update ASAP

i did a pathping to google after replacing all cables.

C:\Windows\system32>pathping -4 www.google.com

my ISP just told me that the problem is in my network and they cant do anything about it. at least the wished me good luck. yay

I think the only thing left, then, is your router. Do you have a router/modem combo, or a different router you can try?

0 DESKTOP-A6N12EU.home [192.xxx.x.xxx] 8/ 100 = 8% |
1 3ms 8/ 100 = 8% 0/ 100 = 0% internetbox.home [192.xxx.x.x] 92/ 100 = 92% |
Right there, you're losing nearly all your packets being sent to your router, so your problem is internal, it's likely your router or possibly your Network Interface Card (LAN port on mobo, it may have gone bad), but you can get a replacement NIC pretty easily: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/dQmLrH/tp-link-wired-network-card-tg3468 (I think you're german, but maybe not)

If you plug a computer directly into the router and like sit next to it, does the same packet loss happen?

For an example, this is what a working network looks like:

thanks for your reply.
i have the same problem, even when hooking my laptop of with my router directly via lan. my ISP told me i could try a new router, but i have to buy it for 200 bucks (not even joking)
at least they said i can return it, if i dont see any improvement with the new one.
