Hi guys I am currently trying to build a PC around the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 with the MSI B350 PC mate motherboard

CPU: https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113428
MOBO: https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144029

As my main purpose of this PC is for 3D modelling, video rendering, system simulations and light gaming, some people have recommended me to get high RAM memory. However, I am very confused with the RAM speed as the price for a 2400MHz is significantly cheaper compared to a 3000MHz DDR4 Ram.

I would like to ask, does the Ram speed makes a significant difference till a point where it is visible or it can be ignored? All of your help is much appreciated.

Solution
Speed matters. Always. How much is a guess depending on base speed rating, OC, motherboard, etc. Get the fastest you can afford, 3200 should be fine and if your board allows it, you may OC to 3600+ in time.

DO NOT get 4 sticks. EVER. Check your board specs, but as far as I know, Ryzen limits four sticks to 2400 max. 2x8 or 2x16 is far better.

The reason folks are telling you to get high frequency ram with Ryzen is because Ryzen's performance scales well with ram speed. 3D modeling, rendering, etc (all your use cases) get better performance with higher frequency ram especially compared to some other work sets. So yes I do believe you will see the difference going with the faster ram.

Thanks for your help but is the difference very significant? I mean I am payignprobably almost double the amount for a 3000MHz Ram compared to a 2144MHz Ram. Does tbe price compensate for the price increase? Also i have heard complaints that some people can't get the Ram to run at the stated frequency especialy above 2666MHz. Any ideas regarding that issue?

As long as you only run 2 sticks you should be able to hit 3000mhz once you go to 4 2400mhz is the best your likely to get, 2666mhz if your lucky. This is assuming you go by your motherboards recommended brands in their compatibility list. I am the kind of user that notices small differences in performance because I am such a demanding user and I will usually pay more to get it. Question is are you that kind of user and is this one of those time your willing to pay a premium for it. I honestly can't answer this question for you. Only you can. Double is a lot of extra cash but me I cannot stand a sup-par experience or lower FPS in anything I do (gaming, editing etc). If you think your the type of person to bang their head off the wall over small-meduim performance issues, then yes it likely is worth your money.

To answer your question, I dont think I am such a fussy user. Therefore in your opinion, which Ram speed is the best for performance and bang on the bucks?

I would just go with the slower ram for now. If it completely sucks you can always return it for faster or wait for prices to come down/need to add more (32GB max I believe when running faster then 2400mhz speeds via 2 sticks, again four sticks is 2400mhz up to 64GB).
