A basic machine to run 1080p and 720p MKVs, MP4s etc (not blu ray discs)

Hi. Desperately trying to get a crappy pc together to run movies and nothing else for my sisters bedroom. I have the following components lying around

p4 640 (3.2ghz) processor, 1gb memory,
amd athlon 64 3000+ (2.01ghz), 1gb memory,
Nvidia FX5600 128mb
Radeon 9200 256mb and 9250GE

might have some extra ram lying aorund and i got an Nvidia 8800GTX but not the psu tp power it.

I know this is a load of ol rubbish but can any of this stuff do 1080p playback?

You'll want a faster setup than that, even for movies.

the fx or the radeon will work for those types of files and resolutions

the problem is those cpus you mention the p4 is a single core, just as the athlon

you really need two faster cores for this task

if any pc can, try with the athlon first, add the 2 gbs of ram, put the 9200 and see how it goes, on what os?

remember to use vlc with the files, the rest will have to use the web browser, but this asks for a faster cpu, which you don't have

consider building a mini itx pc with a cheap pentium g4560, that will surely give you the results you ask, the single core cpus are not for this task really
