I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with the following specs:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2x2.53Ghz
RAM: 2x2GB DDR2 Non-ECC
Graphics: XFX ATI Radeon HD6670 (1GB model)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Two days ago, after some days of slowdowns, a hangup and a forced shutdown, I turned on my PC to get the message "BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot."
After looking online for solutions I tried using CHKDSK /f /r from the W7 installation disk, only to get the following message: "failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50."
I followed this with bootrec.exe /fixmbr and /fixboot (not /rebuildbcd), both claiming to be successful, and rebooted, still getting the BOOTMGR error. After many tries, repeated errors, and one failure to start up the disk itself, I checked the StartRep.exe error messages, which read as follows:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: -1
Problem Signature 05: ExternalMedia
Problem Signature 06: 1
Problem Signature 07: MissingOsLoader
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 3082

I tried a memory diagnostic but the system failed to load once more, so I called it a night and went to bed. Today, however, when I turned on the system, the memory check was performed successfully and Windows tried to start. However it predictably failed, and booted onto what I assume is the recovery partition. I tried running StartRep once more, and got the following info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: -1
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailovr
Problem Signature 06: 2
Problem Signature 07: CorruptAcl
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 3082

Any tips on how to solve this? I will try to backup any important data before proceeding, but I wanna know if there's something I can do before reinstalling the OS or replacing the HDD.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you! I tried this method, however when I tried listing the volumes with diskpart, there was no sub-GB system recovery partition, only the ones I used regularly. Could it be that the system recovery partition is hidden and must be made visible somehow?

EDIT: Okay, so I found both the corrupt bootmgr and the good bootmgr located at Windows/Boot/PCAT in the C: drive. However, when trying to rename the bad bootmgr, I got a message saying "System could not find the specified file." Do you know what could I do?
