Solution
You should be able to run AAA titles at 1080p with that beast of a GPU.

However, if you still want to upgrade:

Based on that I'd suggest something like an R5 1600x, primarily due to the fact that otherwise you're looking at either a non unlocked i5/i7 or a cpu a few generations old (which would be less than ideal). Pair this with any new AM4 platform motherboard, although that will mean new ddr4 ram which would need to be high speed as the ryzen platform works best with speedy ram.

Of course this is just a suggestion as you never stated of you had any other use for your pc rather than just gaming and what sorts of games you play. If you could specify that I could be more inclined to give more specific advice

I'm interested in playing games like battlefield 1 at high settings and the upcoming battlefront 2 game. Purpose of the pc is gaming nothing else really besides browsing the internet.

Thanks for the suggestions. Currently i am playing battlefield 1 and am getting unstable fps and many fps drops while using the 1060 at high settings, which confuses me. I suspect its the cpu bottleneck.
