Greetings everyone,

I have a few questions in regards to the M.2 SSD that I ordered. Thanks for any help in advance:

1. I ordered a 250GB Samsung EVO 960 NVMe M.2 SSD and its my first time using one and this will be the only storage device on the computer I'm building. There's two slots on my Asus ROG Strix Z270F motherboard for the M.2 drive. Do I install it in the slot at the bottom right hand corner of the board, or the one at the center?

2. Also I saw a video that shows the write speeds of the NVMe drive will be limited unless you manually turn off the write cache buffer in device manager for the M.2 drive. But for the Samsung, I can just download and install the driver from the Samsung website, instead? Which is the preferred method?

3. Do I need to download the Magician Software from the Samsung website? Do I need it? And what does it do?

4. I installed the Intel Rapid Storage driver/software for this computer I'm currently using. I see it on the bottom right hand corner of my screen in the "Show hidden icons" area:

4a. What is Intel Rapid Storage and what does it do? Do I need it?

4b. It seems like its disabled in the BIOS (I see it on the first screen when entering the BIOS). Do I need to enable it from there?

4c. Do I need to install this for my new system that has an NVMe M.2 SSD?

5. On the Asus website, it states

Well according to the site

*. The M.2_1 socket shares SATA_1 port when use M.2 SATA mode device. Adjust BIOS settings to use a SATA device.

*. The M.2_2 socket shares SATA_56 ports when use M.2 PCIE mode device in X4 mode. Adjust BIOS settings to use M.2 PCIE devices

What does "Adjust BIOS settings to use a SATA device," or "Adjust BIOS settings to use M.2 PCIE" devices mean? Don't I just install the m.2 on the motherboard, and set it as boot in BIOS and then install Windows?

That's all the questions I have for now. Thanks for help everyone

Solution
2. and 3.- Samsung Magician will optimize your SSD for best performance so use it.

4.- No, you don't need Intel Rapid Storage, it allows you to setup raid and other stuff that you don't really need.

Got no experience with M.2 yet so I can't answer the other questions.
