Just how important is the graphics card here?

I'm looking at two laptops that are $750, can't really spend more than that. Just can't figure out how big of a deal the graphics card will be for me.

I'm not a heavy gamer, but I like playing Sims on as high settings as possible. I'll be using it when I start school as an engineering student (don't know what programs yet or how intense they are) and beyond that just regular use like word processing, web browsing and video streaming thru Netflix/Hulu.

Copied the stats over:

Lenovo Ideapad Y700

Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ Processor 2.6GHz
16GB DDR4 (2-DIMM) RAM
4GB AMD R9 M375 Graphics
1TB Hard Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive

Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series

Intel® Core i5-7300HQ Processor 2.5GHz
8GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM
4GB NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 1050 Graphics
1TB SATA Hard Drive (No SSD)

From what I've looked up, the processors are fairly comparable, with the Lenovo having a slight edge. But it seems the Dell has a far better graphics card. However the Lenovo has double the RAM and the SSD. So is the better graphics card the better choice for my planned use? Or the higher RAM and SSD?

Personally I would go with the dell with the better gpu, but i game a lot. I think it would be nicer to have thew newer gen. i5, better gpu, and have the ability to add more ram if need be to get to 16gb. The only things you wont really have is the ssd. The graphics in the lenovo will do well for you too and you can plays Sims with good graphics with it, but i personalyl just prefer the new i5 and better gpu of the dell.

I think if you're playing games on a laptop, that need more than 8gb of ram, you're expecting too much from that laptop. For any gaming I'd want that 1050. Unless by "Sims" you mean one of the older versions, then you could probably be alright with the 375m. But if that's the case then you don't need the 16gb ram.

The SSD is nice, but not enough to override the niceness of having the 1050.
