Just swapped out my old i5-4690K that I had OC'ed to about 4.5GHz for an i7-4790K I picked up but I can't get this thing to OC to even 100MHz more than it's turbo clock... What the hells with that? I even put the voltage to 1.3v :(

It even strugles to boot on stock! :ouch:

I feel somthing else might be at play here, but I have no idea what it might be. I've already tried reseating the CPU.

Solution

Check for a bent CPU pin. I had a similar issue and that's what it was.

This is my current partlist, apart from the CPU, being the one I'm trying to get running now.

And yes, I loaded "optimised defaults".

Haven't changed anything else other than the CPU and my i5-4690K has been stable for a year in this exact hardware configuration.

with everything set to stock/auto, use hwinfo

run a quick stress test and check what frequencies the cores are running at, the vcore value and what temps the cores and cpu package are being reported

Also, is your bios running the latest version?

Sorry I took so long, couldn't get the machine to boot again and Toms wouldn't load up on my phone :(

Anyway, I might have finally got some progress, after a second reseat of the CPU, and the heatsink barley on, I think I might finally have a stable system on stock. The fastest it completed POST and booted so far. Stressing it with Adia64 at the moment.

Everything looks stock in HWinfo as well, BIOS on the latest version too.

EDIT:
10 minutes of stressing and I can still use the system pretty normal without Chrome lagging like I'd expect it to :spamafote:
Anyways temps still going up, so I think I'll wait around for them to flatten a little. I have observed frequently large temperature differences between the cores though of around 10C, possible result of a lose cooler I guess, so I might tighten it a tad more, but I don't want to screw it all up again.

Now I think my motherboard is broken. Tried my i5 again and I cannot get it to boot without removing the RAM from the 2 slots closest to the CPU.

This memory controller issue has plagued me since I got a Haswell motherboard... But this time, I've reseated the CPU more times than I can count on my fingers twice, but it still results in non-stop beeping for maybe 10 secs then a reboot and the same. If I move the RAM to one of the two furthest slots, it boots....

One of my friend have the same problem
His pc reboots every 10 minutes or even less
Cant figure out what is the issue
He is using i3 4130 Gigabyte h81m mobo 2x4GB ram

Check for a bent CPU pin. I had a similar issue and that's what it was.
What do you mean by bent cpu pin?

Not yet, I'll be giving it a go in a short while.

And by that he means the socket pins on the motherboard.

I did indeed. I pulled the board out of the case so I could get a better look and used thin screwdrivers and a pinboard pin to push them back in line. There was one that had its body bent inwards, all I could do was push it back in line and it seems the pin head must be making good contact now since its working.
