Direct X11/12 problem.

Hello guys, I have a question about my graphics card. Sometime before the release of directx12, I saw that my graphics card was not on the list of cards to support dx12. I then later saw that it would be supported via an update of some sort.

When I type 'dxdiag' into windows and bring it up, my version is clearly dx12 as shown here.

However, when I load up battlefield 1, there is no option to use directx12 unlike on my new computer.

My gpu is a GTX 550Ti and I am using windows 10.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
then is a mix of everything said before, drivers not really supporting it or game not really supporting it

anyway, this game is a bit too much for this card iirc

if it runs decent on dx11, it is better for it, and for the pc in general, more load on the cpu and lss on the weak gpu i think

theoretically, since you are using windows 10 and dx 12, with the latest drivers from nvidia site, you should be dx12 ready

check you have latest nvidia drivers, download them to be sure, install them and restart machine

see if that helps

GTX550ti.....that is quite old. from what i heard nvidia fermi did not have complete support for DX12. or maybe nvidia already giving up on it. for vulkan nvidia already outright saying that fermi will not be supported. AMD card from that generation also have no support for DX12/Vulkan.

i think even if nvidia did release proper DX12 driver for fermi will game developer care to make specific DX12 optimization for fermi? take example on what happen with Raise of Tomb Raider. they decided to support AMD GCN 1.1 and above only for async compute despite GCN 1.0 also capable of using async compute. and it seems even AMD themselves want to stop supporting async compute on GCN 1.0 because of very limited ACE available on GCN 1.0. async compute was missing from GCN 1.0 based card for several months but some user was aware about the issue early on since they got similar numbers when running Ashes benchmark with async turned on and off where as in previous benchmark the numbers are improving with asnyc turned on. so after several months of nagging from user async is back on GCN 1.0.

Haha, yes it is old. It is my old system that I only use for nostalgia. It was more something that I was curious about as to why games that support Dx12 wouldn't display the option to use them (despite having dx12 installed) but with my main PC (Radeon R9 380 4GB) I can switch to dx12.

I guess maybe what you said about it not having complete support, that would make sense i guess.

I appear to already be on the latest driver.

haha yeah, it is not my main system but it was fun running around using a 5ish year old system that was low-mid end at the time playing bf1 on 30fps xD
