Ok so I just built my new PC. It has a Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 Motherboard w/ the latest bios. Also i have the NZXT Kraken X62 AIO Liquid cooler. I went ahead and took off the included thermal grease and put on Artic Silver. Now under idle I am idling at 42-45C. I have done no OC'ing for the CPU either. Stock speed and voltage.

No these temperatures seem right. From what I read 30-35C is what i should be at for idle. Is something faulty? Any insight could help. Thanks.

So I have found the culprit. It seems to be the motherboard. After swapping out the CPU at Fry's and that did not help temperatures, I switched out the motherboard to a MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon edition and VOILA!!! 28C idle temperatures. Thanks everyone for the help.

I have a NZST S340 Case. I have the radiator in the front receiving the freshest air. and i have two exhaust fans located in the back and top of the case. They are corsair 120mm fans.

What are you using to measure your temperatures? Your idle temps may actually be 22-25C if your using a program that doesn't account for the Ryzen 20C temperature offset.

ah interesting. So right now im using CPUID HWMonitor and NZXTs CAM software. They both are consistent when looking at the CPU temperatures.
If the software is the problem, do you recommend another software program that does account for the offset?

Just downloaded and I am still reading 43C on idle =(

is there anything else that could be causing these high temperatures? is it a bad CPU, MOBO, or AIO Cooler?

Are you positive that no programs are running in the background?

You certainly have great cooling capacity and airflow. What were your idle temperatures before you changed the thermal paste? You may have just re-seated the waterblock incorrectly.

Nothing running in the background. The reason i changed thermal paste was because when i first installed it i used the stock thermal paste and was getting these readings.

So i went to frys picked up arctic silver, removed the AIO and used alcohol to remove the old paste from the waterblock and cpu. Then applied the right amount of arctic silver and reinstalled and made sure everything was placed right and seated correctly. I even updated all drivers and flashed to the newest bios.

Hmm, that does sound too high for a water cooler.
I've got a 1700 with an MSI Frozr (air) cooler on it, and it idles around 35c in similarish room temps.
Do you pumps/tubes feel like theirs liquid moving through them?
Are the fans on the radiator spinning right?
Is the pump running at full speed? (it probably always should be)
40 is safe, it may the radiator is in a silent mode so it's running slow and the fans are slow as well.

The pumps are pumping as I can feel the tubes pushing liquid.
All fans are in the right directions.
I changed the pump speed to be at 100% and yet still idles at 42C.
All fans right now i have running at 60% anything over 40C still it gets no cooler

Try turning your fans around to a push configuration on the radiator and test for results. It sounds like you're in pull configuration right now. With the dust filter on the front of the s340 case, a good bit of your airflow is being restricted and not flowing adequately over the radiator.

RIght now I am on a push configuration. Should i try to do a pull configuration?

If you're pushing air out from the front, where are you intaking air?

ok i might be confused w/ the push pull configuration. But my setup is like this. from the front i have the dust shield followed by intake fans then the radiator. then i have my exhaust in the back and top.

Are you doubly sure the fans are in the right config? The radiator has 4 fans on it right? and the arrows are all pointing towards the inside of the case?
And you sure the fans for the top and rear and pointing out right?
Is the case shoved up against the wall or a corner or something?

All fans in the right direction. Triple checked. My rig is on top of a test with no obstructions.

I took of the front panel and it still idles at the same temp.

Should I return the motherboard and see if that'd the problem. Or switch the cpu?

I'll try and switch out the cpu. Don't think it's the cooler cuz I just tried to use the stock spire cooler that came with the cpu and it still reads the same temperature.
