Intel Core i7700k or AMD ryzen 7 1800x

Solution

If your 2000-$ computer will be solely dedicated to just pure hardcore gaming and nothing more, then get the Intel Core i7-7700K.

If your 2000-$ computer will be used for productivity, workstation, streaming, editing, multi-tasking AND gaming, then get the AMD Ryzen 7..... the 1700 will do. Just OC the Ryzen 7 1700 to match the Ryzen 7 1800X. If you want bragging rights and don't care about price/performance, then, get the 1800X as it is the most expensive.

This is exactly what I was looking for thanks for the thorough explanation I really appreciate it.

At resolutions above 1080, the 1700X actually performs identically to the 7700k pretty much, it also has way more threads, meaning it'll retain relevance for longer.
I used to recommend the 7700k for high end gaming till a few days ago, but newer figures show there's only a few frames between the two, like 1-3fps either way.
The 1700 + an OC is the best value choice, stock cooler is also pretty beefy.
