Looking to overclock and water cool my system

Hi!

I have no experience with watercooling and very little experience with overclocking, but i want to do both of those things. I think I have a decently powerful machine and would like to get the most out of it. I feel like sometimes its sluggish and that there is no reason why it should be.

Here are the main components of my system:
MOBO: GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz

GPU (I'm not sure if this is the exact one, please let me know if that matters):
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Super Clocked Gaming ACX 2.0 6GB

PSU: CORSAIR CX Series CX600 600W 80 PLUS

Case using this since 2011: Cooler Master HAF 922 - High Air Flow Mid Tower

And a few SSD's for storage.

Can someone help me understand how to overclock and cool the components in my system? I'm looking for a decent water cooling system. If I need a new case (mine is 3 PC's old), I will buy one.

Liquid cooling, or custom water cooling? There is a difference in what you are getting, but often the casual reader does not know the difference when comparing or mentioning a closed loop AIO cooler vs. watercooling loops.

Yes, many good air coolers perform around the same as many AIO liquid coolers.

This is kind of the catch that marketing depends on for boxed AIO's......people get hung up on the term liquid cooling and assume they're buying great cooling performance.

maybe consider a higher end psu, and take a look at corsair's aio water coolers. personally i'd prefer a good air cooler like the noctual d15, or cryorig r1.

I wonder how a PSU might affect my pc if there is a surplus of wattage. Maybe when the system is taxed while running games it pulls more wattage and comes closer to 600 watts?

Are there any benefits to one or the other regarding cooling? I have a non-stock coolermaster heatsink on my cpu, but i thought liquid cooling would be better. I was kind of surprised to read otherwise.
