How does gpu overclock affect cpu heavy games

I recently started playing pubg and had problems with it like crashing and stuttering that got fixed when i reset my afterburner settings to 0,does anyone know if gpu overclock causes problems in some other cpu games and is the gpu oc fps gain even noticeable in games like that

Possibly, your GPU overclock wasn't stable and the GPU's fans can't keep it cool enough to run normally.
Just because a game is CPU intensive it DOES NOT mean it doesn't use the GPU at all.
If you overclock the GPU of course it's gonna give you a FPS gain.
