I am looking to upgrade my CPU, and i am not sure what to get. All I will really be using my PC for it to play games so i am between getting an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or an i5-7500. I have also considered getting a second hand 4th gen i7 because i would be able to keep my DDR3 RAM but i would prefer a new CPU. I would also prefer to chose the CPU which will be cheapest including the mobo. The i5 can not be overclocked, and i would overclock the AMD CPU if i got that, i have looked at benchmarks, and in game they seem to perform similar, if not the i5 outperforms, but that is without overclocking. Which CPU would be better to go with simply for playing games, as i would not really use it for anything else, besides from basic things like internet browsing and maybe Microsoft word. I would prefer to get the one that is cheaper including the mobo, and which will continue to do its purpose in the future for longer.

The 1500x is just hands down better than an i5 7500 mate.
Single core performance is virtually identical , it has an extra 4 threads

That said if you can at all the ryzen 1600 is only $20-25 more & is 50% more physical CPU than the 1500x.

No to haswell mate as an upgrade , its a 4 year old socket & is dead now.
