Two months ago,I bought a motherboard to replace my h81m e33 motherboard. I plugged in everything together only for my monitor to say "no signal". I presented this problem to my uncle and we tried all the troubleshooting that was in his knowledge. Unplugging the ram, switch graphics cards and plugging the HDMI into the motherboard. He came to the conclusion that the motherboard was DOA. I returned it that week and bought a different motherboard. I bought a z97-k motherboard and it came into the mail today. I put everything together and turned it on. It still suffers the same problem. Everything turns on( fans, lights, etc.) it just doesn't display on the monitor. The only possible source I could think of would be the hard drive or the cpu.

Solution
If you have an add-in GPU then you may need to connect the display to the Intel outputs on the motherbd so that you can enter the bios and set the default graphics card to initialize first to PCIE or PEG.
