Has anyone done a PCB swapped on a Seagate before?

I do know that the BIOS IC must be swapped as well. But when you do a PCB replacement, what specs do the PCB must match to proceed a clean swapped? s/n? firmware? p/n?

Hi Jaymes,

we would like to add something to our previous post since you decided to go with data recovery services.
As mentioned, you could give our In-Lab Recovery Service a shot. We will analyse your drive free of charge in regards to which data can be recovered. If we are not able to recover your data, this service will not cost you a penny. You are only paying for this service if we...

Generally, you will need a same model board to match the rest of the hardware, unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer. But are you sure its just the board that is dead, or is it the motorized parts inside the drive. It is a ten year old drive, if the motor made it that far, that is actually pretty good.

If you are looking to retrieve data stored on it, swapping the PCB might get it up and running, but if not, you may need to get a service that can actually swap the patters (it requires a clean room and a bit more technical expertise). Drivesavers https://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com is actually very good and my employer has used them several times for emergency recovery.

If you are not worried about data but just looking to get the disk back up and running, I would say just save yourself some headache and buy a new drive.

We definitely don't recommend switching the circuit board on the hard drive or opening up the drive. When hard drives have potential issues, it is best that they be opened by professionals in extremely sterilized environments known as Clean Rooms, because any level of dust coming into contact can harm the data stored on the drive and erase any chance of recovering the data.

If the drive is still seen in the system at all and it's the data on the drive you're after, you can look into Seagate Recovery Services including but not limited to Lab Recovery Services, or there is also some great 3rd party recovery software out there (some are even free), you'd just have to do some digging around online to see what other users recommend based on their own experiences.

Sorry to reply late. Unfortunately, the HDD is just completed dead. I'm just guessing that it is the PCB by watching all these youtube video lol.

I don't know how to upload my hdd here. But this is link looks exactly like mine:

Yeah I thought it over. I have a lot of old photos I don't want to lose from the hard drive, so I might just leave it alone for professional services. I actually watched many youtube video how to revive dead hard drive. I actually already ordered a working PCB and a mini heat gun to do the BIOS IC chip swap out. But I'm already backing off.

yeah, if you are not experienced with transplanting the ROM chip, you could severely damage it, making recovery very, very expensive or even impossible.

There are companies who will do the ROM transfer for you, when selling you a replacement PCB. Alternatively, the cost for a professional shouldn't be more than a few hundred bucks.

A few labs that I recommend that are not only affordable, they have very good technicians with whom you can usually communicate directly.

Recovery Force
Data Medics
Data Savers
PC Image
Data Busters

Good luck
