Bad PC Build?

So I recently built my first computer last November, and I've had it for almost 7 months now, but I'm starting to wonder if it's just a bad build? Sometimes it feels a bit slow, and when it comes to playing games, the reason I built it, it's incredibly infrequent, for example I recently bought Borderlands 2, but I can't get it to run consistently.

My specs are

GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and my drivers are up to date

CPU: AMD FX-8350 Eight Core Processor

RAM: 8GB

My MOBO is an ASRock - 970M PRO3 Micro ATX AM3+/AM3

My OS is Windows 10 64bit

And my Monitor is 1920x1080 60 Hz

So am I just improperly using my hardware, or is this build just useless for gaming and a waste of money?

Solution
Unfortunately you invested in an end of life platform, there are no cpu upgrade options and for gaming the FX range are very weak by todays standards.

Can't I just get a new CPU then?
