Is my CPU dropping my performance and should I overclock it?

I have an omen laptop with a Gtx 1070 and a i7-6700HQ 2.60GHZ.
I came to this conclusion when I saw some videos where people were playing Battlefield 1 1440p at 80/90 fps.and I was playing at those fps at 1080p. Also dropping to 50 fps when explosions happen. Is it safe to overclock considering the possibility of overheating?

Just log temps before and after the overclock and see what happens.
It will depend on what laptop you have and what it's cooler capabilities are.
If you are already seeing high temps and throttling then overclocking is just going to make it worse.
