i7-7700k fan setup to prevent overheating

I recently built a computer and booted into lawbreakers, luckily I thought to use MSI Afterburner to measure my temps. I noticed that my i7 started venturing to the 68-72 degree Celsius range after a game (At about 50% usage) and I smelt an electrical smell from my computer. I immediately jumped out of the game and found my idle temperatures to be around 45 to 50 Celsius.

I turned off my computer and opened it up to find a TON of heat around the CPU area and near the back fan. I decided to switch around my fans so that rather than having two 140mms in the front and one in the back, I now have one in the front and one in the back. The smell disappeared the the heat wasn't building up around the CPU anymore, and the worst I got at about an 80% load was 65-66 degrees Celsius (I also turned off hyperthreading at this time). I tested this again with 2 in the front and one in the back and had the same problem as before, as my CPU began to quickly heat up after a few minutes.

I'm wondering if this is due to my fan configuration, and if I could set up my extra fan somewhere else for it to be even better. I have a fractal design r5 case, a zotac amp extreme 1080 (its a massive card) and a hyper 212 evo.

If anyone could give me any information on why this is possibly happening and how to improve it I would be incredibly appreciative.

Those temps aren't to bad actually. less then 90C is safe, less then 80C is acceptable for daily use, less then 70C is ideal. However the i7 7700K is known to have heat issues due to bad TIM. Intel even went as far as to tell people to not overclock there overclocking chip...lame right? Anyways I would not worry about your temps to much. That said the electrical smell is all bad. I would check your motherboard (pop it out and look for charring near the VRMS and Caps). If you don't see anything your ok for now but I would keep a close eye on things. If you smell it again try to nail down where it is coming from (motherboard, PSU, GPU, etc). When you nail down the part causing you trouble i suggest you replace it. Anyways more on the i7...
