I recently built a new PC and was wondering if I could just take my hard drive from my old PC and transfer the files to my new PC. The old hard drive has a copy of windows that I would like to keep for my old PC, I was just wondering if anything would be lost if I use it in my new PC.

Quick answer : sure

As you realize your system isn't the same and windows will need to reload drivers and remove stuff that isn't there anymore.

You must also realize of your system is a 6th/7th Gen Intel or Ryzen, your not going to be able to easily use Windows 7 as all this new shiny hardware is unknown to windows 7 nor does viable drivers exist for your new hardware.

if you have windows 10, you will reboot a few dozen times, and eventually "found new hardware and updates will be done to be processed" your license windows 10 is based on hardware so you licensed will be revoked, until you re-log into your win 10 associated email account you secured on your original pc with and then it should settle back to the way it was with a...

generally speaking I would consider first if the hard drive is worth keeping, older HDD are 5400rp,m and should really be changed as 7200 rpm make a world of difference on new systems, that said, a new drive can be cloned from your original drive (keep your original question in play with new computer) and yet having a much better drive in your system that wont slow it down.

what your make and model on the label of your drive, it could be just fine.
