Bought a Gigabyte barebones system and started setting it up today. Put windows 10 onto a USB and installed it onto the SSD.

I set the bios to boot first to the SSD (windows boot manager) but it will not boot up. It goes straight into UEFI.

A few other bits I've noticed that are rather strange, if I set the sata mode selection to AHCI, it can't detect the SSD. It will only detect it using Intel RST. Also in the bios, the sata and rst configuration , the sata ata port 0 is always empty despite on the RST screen showing that it is there.

Spec:
PC: Gigabyte Kaby Lake i3 BRIX S Barebone Mini PC Kit with 2.5" SATA Bay GB-BKI3HA-7100
RAM:Corsair Memory 8GB (1x8GB) DDR4 SODIMM 2133MHz
SSD: Samsung 750 EVO 120 GB 2.5 inch Solid State Drive

Update: Just tried using a hdd from an old laptop and the bios detects it immediately. Does this mean that my SSD is faulty?

Will move this to the storage forum.

Solution
Windows 10 uses a separate partition for boot files,it's very possible that windows installation picked up the usb as being this separate partition and went ahead installing windows without creating this boot(recovery) partition on the HDD,it's all about how the bios sees boot devices.
What happens if you put the usb back in and tell bios to boot from there?

You can fix up your SSD with the necessary boot files but it's pretty technical.
