So I've been looking to build my first pc and I have settled on two different builds. Which build of the two that I have listed is better? I will be mostly gaming and MAYBE streaming or video/audio editing. Which one do you guys recommend that will last me at least 5 years?

First Pc Build:
Case – Thermaltake Versa N21
Processor – Intel Core i5-7600k
CPU Cooler – Cyroig H7
Motherboard – Asus Prime Z270-P
Video Card – EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB
RAM – Crucial DDR4 8GB Single
Power Supply – Corsair Cx650m
Hard Drive – Seagate 1TB

Second Pc build:
Case: Nzxt S340
Processor: Ryzen 5 1600
Motherboard - Asus Prime b350 Plus
Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB
Ram - G.skill - Ripjaws V series 16gb
Power Supply – Corsair Cx650m
Hard Drive – Seagate 1TB

The second Pc build will cost me $30-40 more.

So what do you guys recommend? I've heard that Ryzen is more futureproof because in the future it will be better than i5 in gaming as games will start to utilize more cores and threads, is this true or should I just go with an i5? I've been pondering over this topic for a lot of time and I just can't decide between these two.

Solution
Go for the Ryzen build. It will not only last you longer but will give you much better performance for you blended workload that you have mentioned.

> If 7600k lasts for 3 yrs with 135 fps along with streaming, the 1600 will last 5 yrs with 115 fps with equally good streaming due to the extra 2 cores. Beyond 60fps to 80fps, the difference is not even visible to the naked eye unless you place a counter on your screen.
> Where Ryzen will shine is the editing part, again due to the higher core count.
> As games are starting to use more cores and threads, the 1600 will outlast the 7600k. Even Intel is shifting to 6 cores in its mainstream lineup from the next iteration of Coffee Lake.
> The blended performance of Ryzen is anyday better...

As the market and technology stands today, unless you need more FPS for competitive esports gaming, Ryzen is a much better deal.

Would you still recommend it if 75-80% of my time is done gaming?

Absolutely yes. After the latest BIOS fixes Ryzen is great value compared to the 7600k.

You will have a nicer graphics card than I and I have been doing this for 15 years. Nice. But how can you skip the M.2 SSD option in 2017? Get a 512 GB SSD to add on to install your operating system and your favorite programs.

Also, would you really go for 8 GB ram? Get 2x8 for 16 GB of ram. Dual channel plus high capacity if you are building a system that's supposedly still going to be used 5 years from now that will be 2022 lol.

I just bought a ryzen 5 cpu for 220, and a motherboard for less than the price of the intel cpu, im sure more cpus will become available for the AM4 socket. I used the excess money to get a 256 GB M.2 SSD to diversify and actually speed up my system.

I'm betting the 1070 will be worth the investment. A good 6 GB 1060 basically does ultra 60 fps vsync 1920x1080p for most ALL games.

Are you happy with your Ryzen 5 cpu in terms of gaming and other stuff?
