Ok first question, why in the world did you think this was ok?

Secondly, yes you probably shorted out the motherboard or the RAM.

First try it with just the old ram, then with just the new ram. If neither works I would remove everything including the board from the case, and try it with just the old ram, cpu, and psu connected.

Still doesn't work? Probably damaged the motherboard. May be worth trying with a different ram stick thats not one of the two you used, but most likely time for a new motherboard.

Yeah and NEVER do that.

Advice: Never ever work physically on any piece of technology while it is on. Now since you did that, it could be many things, I would just run through the normal trouble shooting stuff because you could have fried multiple things or just one. Start by unplugging all drives and external things. Try to boot. Then test for bad ram, psu, then gpu, cpu, motherboard, monitor, cables, shortages, ect.

it was kinda a stupid nooby decision but i think ive shorted the motherboard or the ram . what would be the chance of the cpu being fried?. btw ive tried all the " changing the ram " solutions. and the answer to why did i do it when it was on was that when i first put the ram in the pc wouldnt register the extra 4gb of ram so i turned it of and put it back in when it was on. dunno why i did it tbh.
