I'm currently in possession of a HD 6750 and was thinking about upgrading to a RX 480 and I was wondering if they would work in crossfire?

Solution

You'd be better off using the HD 6850 by itself so it could use the 2GB of vram and not be held back by the slower HD 6750.

No, the R9 270X is very much faster than the HD 6750. There is no GPU that you would want to pair with the HD 6750 as even 2 of them would still be much slower than an R9 270X or RX 480 or any current-gen gaming GPU you could buy today.

A small benefit in some games. But you'd be better off with a new $100 GPU such as an RX 560 or GTX 1050. Since you can afford an RX 480 you'd be WAY better off if you didn't pair it with anything of similar performance.

Well I'm actually looking for a cheap crossfire set up, and was hoping to drop how much I spend by using some stuff i already have. I'm looking to save up for a fx series CPU because I'm currently still using an athlon ii 635 that I have oc to 3.41 GHz

Crossfire and cheap don't really go together. The cheaper (and older) a GPU the less you will gain from crossfire. You'd be better off buying a single new cheap GPU of the current generation. I'm pretty sure an RX 550 would be better than x2 crossfire HD 6750.

If you explain your budget a little more, what can you afford now and how much do you plan to save up for later? Maybe we can help you make the best decision for you needs. Also, what king of games are you wanting to play?

Horizon zero dawn, GTA v, bf1, ect. My budget isn't very high. Most of my parts were traded for working on people's PCs. I can love with my current CPU because I an currently limited by my GPUs ram only having 1gb. My budget wild have to be around 60$ which is why in looking for another card for crossfire

If the 1GB is limiting you then you don't want to use that card in crossfire as it would still only use 1GB. Read this about crossfire http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-geforce-stutter-crossfire,2995-2.html

Now, you'd be better off with single GT 1030 for $69 as that's the cheapest current-gen GPU there is without buying used.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Video Card: MSI - GeForce GT 1030 2GB LP OC Video Card ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $69.99

Depending on your power supply, you could go with a used card like this GTX 660, which would be quite a bit faster than the GT 1030. But it would still be limited by your CPU.

Right. Anytime you ran a game that used more than 1GB of vram you would experience drops in performance because 2 unequal cards are trying to provide equal performance. It could give you less performance than just the one HD 6750.
