Looking for a little mp3 player with excelent sound quality

I don't care about fancy screen all I care about is that the device will be really small, have an option for external memory, and will have a really good sound quality.
I looked online on the sansa clip plus but I saw lot's of people that saied that the bigger mp's like the fiio x3ii have a much better sound quality, is the diffrence that big?

It depends on your headphones, if you are using apple ear buds then you dont care about sound quality and the cheapest mp3 player you could find would likely suit you just fine. If you are using a good pair of studio headphones then having an mp3 player with a good DAC and amp would benefit you, the amp in many mp3 players may not even be powerful enough to push good headphones at a decent volume with good clarity.

I would personally just use my phone with a portable battery powered DAC/AMP. I see no need to buy MP3 players in 2017 when we have smartphones, unless you really want it to be as small as possible for some reason.

Well I used my phone obviusly but it takes too much of the battery, even with a portable one.
How can I know if the dac and amp of a prodact is good?
