Hello,

can I use the second PCIe-Slot of my Motherboard for my Graphics Card instead of using the first one? Will I loose performance, or do they run at the same speed, if the first is not occupied? I am really confused, because the manual says that the second slot runs on 8 lanes, but than says it shares bandwith with the first, so from my understanding the second should run at 16 lanes if the first is not occupied, but I could be wrong.
My motherboard is a Aorus X370 Gaming 5.

Thanks for helping me out..

From what I can tell if you were to put a gpu in the second slot it will run at pcie 3.0 x8, which likely wouldn't reduce performance much if at all versus pcie 3.0 x16. However I would still use the top slot unless you have a good reason not to. Is your cooler in the way or something?

Use the top slot. By using the second slot you will have less bandwidth and more latency since the cpu is farther away from the gpu. I would not recommend somebody use a lesser interface because it looks better.
