Pc not showing the right amount of cores

Upgraded my CPU from an i36100 to an i76700k and task manager and CPU-z are reading the CPU as a dual core, it only shows me that I have 2 cores and logical cores 4. Any idea of what's going on?

Did you make sure to update your BIOS first before switching the cpu out?

Go in msconfig and see if you can change core count. If not, reset cmos. This is actually kinda common. It's not a cpu or bios issue usually but just the mobo not noticing a hardware change.

Sometimes you need to go into Device Manager and uninstall your CPU, then reboot, for Windows to detect it properly. As k1114 suggests, resetting cmos isn't a bad idea either.

I did msconfig and selected and I tried cmos and the pc doesn't turn on now it just acts like it's gonna turn on but turns off right away

Motherboard is a h110m gaming was planing to upgrade later to overclock the CPU and yeah I have the latest bios

How did you reset the cmos? Via jumper? Be aware that you have to move the jumper back before your PC will start.

YOu can't just swap mainboards and cpus and expect WIndows to work flawlessly after a reboot.

Reinstall....

He did not change mobo. You don't need to reinstall windows for a cpu upgrade.

Pc didn't turn on bc my hard drive some how died after trying cmos so I had to order a new one and thanks for the the tips I'll just try the other steps when my new hard drive gets here

Did you ground yourself before touching anything inside the pc? You may have killed it.

Yeah I grounded myself I was always having issues with that hard drive so it was about to die eventually, pc detects it in the bios and all but it doesn't load into windows and when I try reinstalling windows it says there is no hard drive to install windows

it is a 110. Firmware needs to be updated to see a 7th Gen CPU.

So some how I got my hard drive to work after I tried a lot of things and manage to boot the system into safe mode since even after I could turn on the pc it wouldn't load into windows

Also after uninstalling the CPU on device manager it reads it as 8 cores not 2
