Hello, so I've had my custom built i5 4690k 3.5ghz, GTX 760, with a Z87-plus motherboard for about 2-3 years now and just recently I've encountered some issues, being that my computer will not boot with 16gb's of ram I had to take out 8gb's for my pc to even boot up and now it runs fine. Can anyone explain to me why this is? Any help is much appreciated.

Solution

In that case, there's nothing you can do. It means that those two RAM slots don't work. You will have to replace the motherboard if you want to use all four RAM modules. If the motherboard is still under warranty, you can contact Asus.

Everything appears to be good although I swapped the ram that I took out with the currently installed ram and my pc still ran fine. Its just when I add the third or fourth stick it powers on and off repeatedly

I tried switching the spots but my pc will only boot with a certain two, everything used to work fine. I'll try and find the manual

It's still fine to use and its not gonna damage my components?

You should be fine to still use it.

A few things that I forgot to mention earlier for those 2 slots that are not working:
- if the motherboard is dusty, you can try blowing out those RAM slots with compressed air.
- try a CMOS reset.
